Etsy Fee Calculator
This etsy fee calculator breaks an Etsy sale into its four possible charges — listing, transaction, processing, and Offsite Ads — and shows what is left after your item cost. Price from the fee stack, not from the item price alone.
Your sale
The formula
Etsy charges four fees, and each one has a different base — that is the whole trick to getting the math right. Listing fee: $0.20 flat per listing, charged when you publish, again every four months if it has not sold, and again each time an item sells from a multi-quantity listing. Transaction fee: 6.5% × (item price + shipping + gift wrap) — sales tax is not in this base for US sellers. Payment processing: 3% × (item price + shipping + sales tax) + $0.25. Offsite Ads: 15% or 12% × (item price + shipping), only when the sale is attributed to an Offsite Ad click within 30 days, and capped at $100 per order.
One number to keep straight: the tax Etsy collects from the buyer is remitted to the state by Etsy, so it never lands in your pocket. This calculator therefore keeps tax inside the processing-fee base but out of "you keep" — the money that actually reaches you is the item price plus shipping, minus the four fees.
A worked example
Sell a $30 item, charge $5 shipping, no Offsite Ad sale. Listing fee: $0.20. Transaction fee: 6.5% × $35 = $2.28 (rounded from $2.275). Processing fee: 3% × $35 + $0.25 = $1.30. Total fees: $3.78, which is 10.8% of the $35 the buyer paid for the item and shipping. You keep $35 − $3.78 = $31.23 before your own costs. If the item cost you $12, net profit is $19.23 and the margin on the $35 sale is 54.9%. Now add an Offsite Ad sale at 15% for an under-$10k shop: another 15% × $35 = $5.25, total fees $9.03, and the same sale keeps $25.98 — which is why Offsite Ads either earn their keep with volume or quietly eat a thin margin.
Offsite Ads, honestly
Offsite Ads are the fee sellers argue about most, because they arrive as a surprise: Etsy shows your listing on Google, a buyer clicks, and up to 30 days later a purchase triggers the fee. Below $10,000 in Etsy sales over the past 365 days you can opt out; above it you cannot. The $100-per-order cap matters on expensive items — a $1,000 sale through an Offsite Ad costs $100 in ad fees, not $150 — but on a $35 sale the cap never comes into play. If your margins are under 20%, run the numbers here with the toggle on before you decide the extra traffic is worth it.
One honest caveat: the Offsite Ads base is stated here as item price plus shipping with the $100 cap, which matches Etsy's fee documentation as checked in October 2026. Some fee guides describe the base loosely as "order total" without splitting out tax, so if you sell high-tax items, treat the Offsite figure as an estimate within a few cents and confirm the exact line in your Payment account after the first attributed sale. Category and currency rules can also shift the numbers for non-US sellers — this page covers US shops.
Frequently asked questions
What does Etsy charge on each sale?
Four possible charges: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, a 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee on the full total including sales tax, and an Offsite Ads fee (12% or 15%) only if the sale came through an Offsite Ad.
Does the 6.5% transaction fee apply to sales tax?
No — for US sellers the transaction fee applies to the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, but not to sales tax. The payment processing fee is the one that includes tax in its base.
How does the $0.20 listing fee renew?
A listing costs $0.20 when you publish it, again every four months if it has not sold, and again each time an item sells from a multi-quantity listing. A listing that sells out and is not renewed stops there.
What is the difference between Offsite Ads 15% and 12%?
Shops that made under $10,000 on Etsy in the past 365 days pay 15% on Offsite Ad sales and can opt out. Shops at $10,000 or more pay 12% and cannot opt out. The fee applies only to sales attributed to an Offsite Ad click within 30 days, and is capped at $100 per order.
Can I opt out of Offsite Ads?
Only if your shop made under $10,000 on Etsy in the past 365 days. Above that threshold, Offsite Ads are mandatory. Turning them off below the threshold saves the fee but also removes the extra traffic Etsy sends your listings.
Why is the processing fee charged on tax I never keep?
Etsy collects sales tax from the buyer and remits it to the state for you, but the payment processor still moves that money, so its percentage applies to the full amount paid. That is why a $30 item with $5 shipping and $2.80 tax is processed on $37.80, not $35.
